Cause of miscarriage

Hi,

For those who either found out or have a suspicion on the cause of their previous miscarriage, could you please share with me what it is? I haven’t found the answer for me (had natural miscarriage) and got conflicting information from doctors. I am trying to find out what others have discovered. Xx

Hi Lilly, after three miscarriages I had testing done in London which found I had a underactive thyroid, polycystic ovary and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) which is a clotting disorder. I also had genetics karyotyping for me and my partner as well as full blood work and ultrasound. They think it’s the APS that is likely the problem and without blood thinning medication I only have a 10% chance of a live birth, with medication this goes up to over 70% chance. Obviously there is still always a 1-4 chance of miscarriage in anyone without any diagnosis so it’s not guaranteed to prevent it, but I definitely prefer the odds! Best of luck x

Hi Pineapple, could you please let me know more about the karyotype? Did they find anything? Is there a treatment in case the karyotype results show a problem? Xx

My partners came back normal but mine showed I had a ‘pancentric inversion on one of my chromosomes’. The labs said that my particular inversion is rare and if the embryo makes it to day 5 (which our frozen ones are) then it’s highly unlikely it has my inversion and instead has my normal chromosome. Because of this they couldn’t do PGS (pre genetic screening) I believe with other genetic defects they would recommend PGS on the embryos prior to transfer, however this does come with risks in itself. I didn’t get any results back but dr at epu said it was probably abnormal . 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s hard to accept but I guess as we did ICSI and made the embryo happen , my chances of an abnormal embryo are even harder. Miscarriages makes it all the harder to hope I think.

Sending hugs 😘💐

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I managed to get testing done after mine last year (took A LOT to get) and I found out one of the babies had Trisomy 9. I had various blood tests which were fine before we got the histology results back xx
