Remaining Pregnancy Tissue

So just for some background I had my first BFP on 23rd June after IVF. My 7 week scan on 16th July wasn’t clear so had another scan a week later and was then told it was unlikely my pregnancy would develop so I stopped medications. I was referred to EPU but had to wait a further week for that appointment and then I had to wait a further two weeks before they would confirm my pregnancy non viable. I started bleeding in the middle of these two weeks so I assumed it all was done naturally but when I went for my next scan they could still see a small bit of pregnancy tissue. I had to wait another week for another scan but not much had changed. I had stopped bleeding but they told me that I still had approx 1cm of tissue. I was told they would monitor me for now and sent me for 2 blood tests a week apart (I have no idea what the results of these are) and that brings me to today. I am exhausted. Does anyone know if i could just pass this tissue at any time of if it is likely it will happen with my next period - although I have no idea when that is due!? Could this go on for months? Is 1cm considered small? They did talk to me amount medical management (tablets) but I wasn’t sure what to do and they were happy to monitor me for now. I have another scan next Monday but I assume the tissue is still there if I’m not bleeding? I’m so confused with it all now.

Sorry to hear about your heartbreaking loss... hugs for you! Retaining foetal tissues are quite a common scenario in case of medical management of pregnancy or even in early MC. This however, mostly happens when you have either a natural or a medicine induced management and so in case of DnC. Yes, the leftover tissue can possibly expell itself during your next AF but like you said yourself right now you're not even sure when that's gonna happen. Also, the clinic is skeptical about letting it as it is because sometimes waiting for the next natural AF isn't suitable as even a benign tissue laying inside the body for so long can perhaps cause internal infection, inflamation or something similar.

It's good that you're under monitoring cause then they'll know if the leftover tissue seems to be developing complications. And if at all immidiate expelling is needed both RU486 or DnC both can be an option... I'll choose DnC though. I hope you overcome this hurdle soon and be on with your TTC.
