So approximately nine years ago I fell pregnant twice and had two miscarriages. We then went onto IVF treatment. First cycle was abandoned due to my body not responding, second treatment worked with a flash cycle and now have a adorable nearly four year old boy..
I am 41 now and we would love a brother or sister for him to grow up with.
So we started trying again approximately two years ago to see if we had any luck naturally = Not successful.
Made an appointment with our IVF clinic. Turns out my amh is extremely low ( 0.9,) get told its highly unlikely Ill fall pregnant through IVF. So we pushed for a cycle and yes there was only two follicles, which they advised us to abandon the cycle as its highly unlikely to have no eggs inside.. We pushed them to go ahead, as you never no hey. Went to egg collection, could only retrieve one which was empty and the other was too awkward for them to collect. Went home devastated.
After getting it together we wanted to try one more time but they basically said go on a holiday.. Please don't get me wrong they were all really really lovely staff...but in my head it only takes one....
We thought we would get a second opinion and they said the same. It was suggested that we could try Natural IVF or Egg donation.
So anyway we thought we would try the Natural Ivf cycle.
Just whilst thinking about going ahead with a Natural IVF cycle, low and behold I fall pregnant naturally which sadly ends in a miscarriage, so at this point we are thinking lets see if I fall pregnant again naturally, but the question is why do I loss my natural pregnancies but my IVF pregnancy stuck.?
I have some crazy thoughts that its to do with the progesterone that I took after the egg was put back... Am I crazy in thinking this is possible?
Anyway six months on I fall pregnant again. So was straight to the doctors to see if I could take progesterone which was agreed so I took them. I sadly miscarried this one too and yes people probably think ,ah the progesterone never worked then, my argument is that I didn't start it until about fourteen days after my period so that may have been two weeks late .... I'm probably thinking and talking nonsense but something is telling me that IVF is the way forward and that the medication gears my body up for a pregnancy... Even my husband doesn't agree with me. Please help I'm going crazy LOL xx
Has anyone fell pregnant with IVF with an extremely low AMH and over 40 years old... I think I already know the answer but would just like to check..
Thank you for reading my post and please don't get me wrong we are so lucky in having our little boy so I hope I don't upset anyone with this.
xx

Firstly, thank you for sharing your journey and I’m so sorry for your losses and troubles, I long for a baby (just finished second stims cycle ICSI - awaiting trigger).
Firstly it’s fantastic that you’ve managed to conceive naturally in your 40s with an AMH of 0.9! Wow!
I fear the losses may relate more to poor egg quality and chromosomal abnormalities which is what you see very commonly in ladies 40+ rather than implantation issues.. I may be wrong. I would maybe consider a donor egg and husbands sperm? Xx
Thank you for your reply. It has been rather a rollercoaster but we are okay...
You are probably right and we have discussed the possibilities of egg donation.
I totally understand how you are feeling in longing for a baby and I wish you all the best that you will get your bundle of joy soon, I have my fingers and toes crossed for you.. I hope that your treatment has been okay for you so far.
Hi I’m so sorry for your struggles but I’d just like to say that your body needs progesterone to carry a pregnancy to term and lack of it can cause a misscarrige.i have a condition called endometriosis and it can lessen the progesterone in your body before I didn’t take progesterone I had a misscarrige but second pregnancy I took progesterone before I was pregnant continuously had a successful pregnancy so who knows about your theory hope I’m making sense
I too have endometriosis which I forgot to mention in my post , although its very mild it was spotted many years ago when I was having a hycosy. I've never really had any troubles with it, which affects my day to day life but it was suggested that I had a Laparoscopy to remove any cysts which could help me to fall pregnant.
Were your progesterone levels too low or too high, did you need to push for this or was it suggested to you?
That's what I would like to try, so will mention it to my doctor when I speak to him at my next appointment..
Hey I have done lots of research on endo since I found out I had it you can probably see from many of my old posts I’ve read books articles and so forth as I was determined to get it under control and wanted a baby and this was my findings i also read up on aspirin and endometriosis and found the therapy is useful for us and also used aspirin before pregnancy and during my midwife didn’t really recommend asprin but I told them I have high blood pressure so they can monitor me on it I know you shouldn’t really but I could have sworn things were out of whack and I needed asprin a lot of women on here have the asprin and take progesterone at some point I did a lot of research I’m not advising you to go against your doctor or so called professionals but a lot of people know nothing about endo even gynaecologist so I don’t expect midwifes too so I would make any decisions yourself after researching hope this helps x
Progesterone is always low sorry I should have answered the question but progesterone is always low with endo I didn’t push for it I went off my own back and bought the cream it even helped my pain levels this was before conception once I got a positive I stopped the cream but I was taking the cream every month and stopping for my period a 7 day gap I think you are supposed to have could be 14 I can’t quite remember i took it for at least 3-5 month before I got pregnant x
Hi, you can ask for a referral to the miscarriage clinic to your GP and they will do tests to find out why you miscarry. There could be several reasons (eg the endometriosis, progesterone, immune problems, etc). Xx
