I am in endstage nonalcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and now have HeNa in the brain. I have sudden hallucinations, memory loss, it is so scarry to me. MAYO liver Specialist sent me to Hospice 8 months ago. I also have 8 other serious diseases. Hospice was going to release me last week, but Dr decited to keep me on 8 more weeks. He is changing all my meds around. Hoping to lessen the hallucinations.
I have a DNR form, as I wish to pass at home in my bed. How long will this go on??

Hi there! I am touched by your story mainly because I think I was where you are 4 years ago!! I was at the top of stage 4 and sick as a dog-had jaundice, acitities, vomiting blood…. Is this familiar? Well I am proof it can be beat so chin up and keep on trying because it does get better. Please, please do not get discouraged! It takes time and discipline to give and treat your body the way it needs.
Hello! It’s really encouraging to hear about you beating it👍can you please tell me how did you do it? What changes have you made? What did you eat and what you avoided?
Hey there! Are you in the US? It helps to know what kind of treatment you’re receiving. After being released from hospital in may2020, I ate very healthy and raw foods. Mornings-Smoothies with plant based protein powder to build muscle-lunch grilled chicken, fish or turkey only with veggies. Same for dinner. Bought platters of fruit and veggies to eat between meals and walked about 20 mins a day. Nothing crazy. But listen to your body. Eat what it craves even if it’s not a good choice. I wasn’t sure what my future would be after diagnosed and thought of death but kept fighting. I saw my doc every week for 2 months, then every 2 wks, then monthly, 3 months…Every body and person is different but I believe eating healthy and a little exercise can make a huge improvement with any disease!
Thanks for your reply! You are on the right track😉I’m from Prague, Czech republic, EU. But my GP isn’t that great as yours is. In 2018 I was incidentally diagnosed with mild steatosis. My GP didn’t as much as tell me about a diet. She just said it’s ok everybody has it these days. Then… surprise… in 2020 I had my liver enzymes elevated. At that point I became really worried though my GP still maintained it’s nothing. I started googling, I joined this group here and began to make some major changes in my life. I realized it’s permanent struggle. My enzymes go up any time I make some nutrition mistake. I’m having a fibroscan next week after three years and I have to do it on my own and pay for it. My doctor keeps telling me I’m not eligible for it as my condition isn’t serious enough to have it covered by my Health premiums🙄but I’m not angry with her, she just follows some stupid rules set by Health insurance Authorities.
Ah yes the gp! In 2015 I had an mri that showed fatty liver but gp didn’t tell me. I just kept getting sicker and he did nothing. While in the hospital my daughter found a hepatologist that is wonderful! Without him, I’m sure I would have died. I’ll msg you next with a daily menu to try. It’s up to you to get better. It’s great you’re getting a fibroscan to give you an idea of what stage your liver is in.
In mornings, blend blueberries, bananas, fat free yogurt together. Maybe add some fat free granola and eat or drink it. Only use whole or whole grain breads. Use only fat free or low fat. Your liver doesn’t like fat or sodium. Try to find low sodium and low fat foods. Turkey and avocado sandwiches, salads with grilled chicken. Whole wheat or spinach pastas with low sodium sauce. Ate raw veggies and fruit in between meals. Coffee , tea and water are great! Avoid soda and sugars. I ate like this for about 3 months.
Kathy, be strong but don’t give up! Miracles can happen and it’s never too late to make changes. I just spoke with my ex-father in law. He is 90, he has number of conditions and diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure, weak heart and muscle shaking. He eats many different pills a day. In Febrary 2024 they extracted water from his lungs that accumulated there because of weak heart. They have done the same procedure again in July. His condition was very bad at that moment and nobody knew what was going to happen. But yesterday he told me he is getting better. He can go shopping to the nearest store again and is planning on doing a short bus trip. His mentality is keeping him alive. He doesn’t know how much time he has left but he keeps having plans for the future. Speaking to him was so hopefull and encouraging! He never gives up😉
Don’t give up!! Eat correctly like these friends here say, and move your body from a chair if you can… you can do this!!! Everyone on this page is trying so hard, and supports each other!! Good thoughts and stay in touch!!
