Amoxicillin

I was diagnosed last night with acute diverticulitis and was prescribed amoxicillin clavulanate. Reading the pamphlet that came with it really concerns me. Although I told both the doctor and pharmacist about my F3/F4 liver diagnosis they said that this medicine was complete safe and only concern would be if I had kidney issues. Has anyone taken amoxicillin with NASH if not what has been prescribed for a bacterial infection? I sent a message to my gastroenterologist but she has 48 hours to respond.

Hi, yes I had to take that and Flagyl at same time for my diverticulitis attack, twice. It's only for such a short period I was told it wouldn't harm, 10 days was my run each time. Now that I watch my diet so closely I haven't had a flare in quite sometime. Hope this helps.

Thank you. What kind of diet do you follow? I’ve had diverticulitis for over 20 years with no issues and was never told to follow a diet except not to consume anything with seeds since they might get stuck in the pockets.

I follow a combination of the liver diet through this foundation and a diabetic diet learned through a nutritionist. My gastroligist told me after 3 diverticulitis attacks that he would suggest removal of that area of the bowel but I had two attacks and have not had another. I still have diverticulosis but they have not inflamed giving me diverticulitis attacks since eating better.

my doctor told me that they are finding out that it’s not the diet but our immune system. She thinks something else might be happening with me. The diet I follow is the liver diet. I will continue. Thank you.

Hi Roxxanne, I too have suffered with diverticulitis for about 10 years now. It comes about every 2/3 years. The last attack I had was in April and I had to take Amoxicillin as well. Apparently they don’t give flagyl (thank god) anymore for it. They just up the amoxicillin dose. It is very safe and way better than a possible complication of diverticulitis.

My doctor also told me diet aside from fiber or lack of, is not really thought to cause diverticulitis anymore. I don’t eat nuts and seeds and it seems my flare ups happen regardless.

My hep doctor changed it Cipro and Flagyl. She said that it has lower incidences of causing damage.

I take 4 amoxicillin prophylactically when I have my teeth cleaned for another condition and have not had a problem. I also have F3 NASH.
