Protein

Is anyone here taking a vegan protein powder to supplements the diet that is recommended for Fatty Liver disease? I’ve been following the diet and exercise and I’m losing weight but also muscle mass. I can’t eat enough protein to maintain a good muscle mass. I only have time for 2 meals a day with the intermittent fasting since I try to have a least two servings of all recommended food groups. I see that someone in my age group and weight should consume 107 grams of protein. That seems excessive. Any suggestions?

Roxanne, I don't have an answer. However, I am also looking at how to get more protein as well. I have fish either baked or stir fry twice a week and rice & beans 3 times a week. I am not sure if this is enough protein. I no longer eat meat or consume diary products. I started having muscle cramps in my leg calf's. The doc says I am not getting enough calcium which causes muscle cramps. Let's see what we learn from.

Since liver can affect the heart just as thyroid and I have both problems. My cardiologist wanted me to get more protein daily. Unfortunately, I don't drink a shake daily since for me it's a pain to haul out my "equipment" to make one but with that said. My nutritionist suggested Orgain Simple plant protein powder, gluten free 20g protein with organic nuts and seeds. I throw in a frozen banana half and frozen berries to taste. I use half water and half milk (1 cup total) and ice cubes if it's hot. She suggested making it ahead but I have found it gets to thick for me. I wish I could find a pre-made that isn't so expensive, much more convenient but more costly. I have used Almond milk and other types, works too.

Thank you. This one doesn’t seem to have too many ingredients. I will give it a try. The pre-made ones seem to have a lot more ingredients that I can’t even pronounce.

That's some good tips, thanks. A tip I found very useful in making smoothies that's pretty easy. I'm like you & hate dragging out a bunch of equipment & then the cleanup - I just don't have the time or energy. So I bought a Keylitos 5 in 1 Immersion 800 W Blender off Amazon for $33 bucks on sale. it's one of those stick ones- it works great for fruit or peanut butter smoothies & soups- just cut into 1" or less pieces . Has a boost button if needed. Clean up's a breeze - just run it in soapy water , rinse - done! I dry mine immediately after - no rust issues. I use the whisk attachment everyday to mix my collagen powder in my coconut water. Love my blender lol

Hi Roxanne9

I don’t have a specific brand that I always use, but when I was diagnosed in 2018 with NASH F3, I attended the 1st International NASH Day event and listened to many speakers including doctors. Several recommended supplementing the diet with Whey Protein shakes and a couple said collagen protein is also good. I keep a sugar free isolated whey protein around and sometimes have it for either breakfast or if I eat a normal breakfast instead, I have the shake for lunch. I just use a regular KitchenAid blender and keep it simple. I mix it with sugar free almond milk, 1/2 or a whole banana for sweetness, 1/4 cup of frozen wild blueberries ( I read that wild blueberries are more nutritious than the ones the grocery stores usually sell fresh) , and a couple tablespoons of ground flaxseed, or flaxseed oil. Once in a while I’ll use sugar free chocolate whey protein powder for a change and in that I still use the banana and flaxseed & I keep a container of the peanut butter powder here and add that to the chocolate shake. So it’s just a normal blender jar to clean out.
