Hi all, I was wondering if you had some suggestions on getting more olive oil in my diet if I am not cooking. I am trying to heal my liver and I know that a good amount of extra virgin olive oil is very good for you. I know I can eat it in salads, but I was wondering if I should even use it as a dip of some kind, but what would I dip in it since we're not supposed to really have bread? I can't handle the taste of it in my morning smoothie of kale greens, flax seed, chia seed, almond milk and a little protein powder. I don't cook a lot, but when I do I always use the olive oil. And I'll do microwavable steamable quinoa sometimes and drizzle it on that too. Thanks for your suggestions and anything else that you can tell me that I should eat a lot of that helps to heal the liver. So glad I found this place!

Extra Virgin Olive oil
I like making cold “salad” type things. spiralized zucchini, Quinoa, chick peas, nuts(dry roasted almonds crushed), seeds (hemp, sunflower, sesame), random veggies, avocado, stuff like that with olive oil and vinegar (balsamic, red wine, or apple cider). It’s something that doesn’t require cooking and quick to put together. You can go as heavy handed on the olive oil as you want if you’re looking to add more.
I make zucchini chips, slice thin, toss in olive oil garlic whatever you want, then roast in the oven. Recipes are on line.
The taste of a good olive oil can be a challenge. I just decided that it is medicine and I treat it like cough medicine. I just use a tablespoon and take my medicine. Trying to think of it as food makes it different. Easier to deal with it as meds as many of those don't taste good and just get it over with.
So just put a whole tablespoon in your mouth once a day and swallow it?
Well, my hepatologist prescribed 60ML a day of extra virgin olive oil. That's 4 tablespoons a day. I get a couple through food but usually take two straight. Of course my cirrhosis was fairly far along so I needed to be pretty serious about managing it. I reversed my disease a bit and am now a stage 3 instead of stage 4 so I don't mind doing it.

Thats great. Thank you for this site.
I just found a great recipe that has everything for a healthy salad! 1 pound beets shredded (raw not cooked) 1 tbsp olive oil 2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar 2 tsp Dijon mustard 1 garlic clove minced and 1 Tbsp parsley and cracked pepper. I keep in in the fridge when I need something quick. I hate beets but this has a really great flavor and I know how healthy all the ingredients are for a liver diet. It calls for salt but, of course I have to leave that out.
sounds good! I love beets. personally I avoid the red wine vinegar and dijon mustard because of the alcohol. That being said I am super cautious. it maybe the amounts are insignificant but it would mess with my head. Thank you for sharing- I am always looking for something new to try!
Can you use Avocado oil? Has similar profile and not much if any flavor.
I have flaxseed oil and it tastes terrible but I haven't tried avocado oil is it just as good as EVOO in benefits?
One thing to consider is that there is a wide variety of flavor intensity in olive oils. The ones with high levels of polyphenols, which is what's good for your liver, typically have very intense flavors, but those with lower levels are very palatable. I use Olive Press Heritage Mission EVO when I want a mild flavor. I figure it's better to have some oil with fewer polyphenols than none at all. Don't know what you're using, but it might be a way to include some in your morning smoothies.
Also, I don't know if you would consider this cooking, but I often make hummus and serve it with veggies. You get EVO in the dip and most recipes call for drizzling some over the top as well.
Sounds crazy.....but I just pop the cap off and take a swig each night. If I forget....then I take a swig in the morning. Strangely....it does help.
I know this is annoying, but a making sure you're getting actual olive oil that is the one we are referring to as healthy (towards US Americas - different consumer laws are in shape elsewhere).
Maybe give this a listen. I really like these guys regardless, but it's interesting on olive oil in general in US (not specific to liver health): stuffyoushouldknow.com/podc...
Essentially, just make sure you're taking in olive oil that is good for you while you're being so health conscience!
Cutting oil in general in cooking helped me to cut weight. I went no oil whatsoever, but had the ability to cook my own meals all the time. Olive oil was just as the person described before, not a part of my diet, more of as a prescription that i took purposefully in certain amounts.
Go to a web site called All Recipies. It lists all sorts of food dish ideas and lists ingredients so you can pick up your Olive Oil intake. The site is free and they have thousands of recipes.
You should eat aa lot of cellulose for better functionality and digestion of your whole organism.

Thank you so much guys
I have been mixing mine with balsamic vinegar and using it on a salad. Usually with salmon. I buy the mixed lettuce which make it much easier to put together. Then add vegetables and fish from there. Baking a piece of fish is quick and easy.
