I know I’ve got to keep going but definitely a step in the right direction

Hi Wayne, Would you mind clearing something up for me please. I see posts and stuff all over the place regarding stages of Fibrosis/Cirrhosis which makes me scratch my head. My understanding is that there are 4 stages for Fibrosis:
Fibrosis Severity Scale
F0=no fibrosis
F1= mild fibrosis
F2= moderate fibrosis
F3= severe fibrosis
F4= cirrhosis
If someone has F4 it is cirrhosis. Additionally there are no stages of cirrhosis. Either you have cirrhosis or you don't. That is the way my hepatologist explained it to me. I know you have been at this for awhile now and have a good understanding. Please correct anything I wrote. Thanks !
OK, there are 4 stages of NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) which is the damage phase of fatty liver disease. Those are the F1-F4. Cirrhosis is the historical term so when they did the stages F4 and cirrhosis are the same so it is all a scale related to the amount of scarring or fibrosis that you have. Cirrhosis is either compensated or uncompensated depending on what complications you have. The thing to keep in mind, you don't suddenly become an F4. It is a gradual process and the steps are somewhat arbitrarily labeled to provide a few signposts.
