Hi Sarah

Interesting timing, I was just reading research on omega 3 and am considering writing a blog post. It is typical that medicine has little real advice about diet and they largely ignore things like the oils. A few comments. We typically eat far too little omega 3. The people who take a supplement often take 500mg capsules. Remember this is a food and that is a tiny amount. The only minimum in the literature is 823mg but in research studies people have taken as much as 9000mg daily without problems. The concern is possible bleeding as omega 3 is a blood thinner. It should always be taken with vitamin E as it can increase oxidative stress.

A lot of people get fish burps from capsules. That oil is rancid. I believe there are suppliers who buy spoiled oil and sell it in capsules for big bucks. Fresh oil does not typically cause burps. I personally buy bulk refined salmon oil in quarts or half gallon and store it in the fridge, no burps. I take about one tablespoon per day.

If anyone is interested in the research here is a link

I have taken fish oil for years and believe it contributed to very good heart health; however, I saw this study from Spain and wonder if anyone else in this group with NAFLD who supplemented with fish oil for years discontinued after developing liver C issues. sciencedirect.com/science/a...

This is a rat study but note My comment above to always take vitamin E with fish oil to manage oxidative stress which harmed the rats

I believe they do not sell Vitamin E 800 UI (which is the recommended amount ) correct is that why people take 2 of the 400 UI?

can anyone recommend a quality brand fir Fish Oil? About a decade ago I signed up for a service through a conoany called ConsumerLab online and they specialized in assessing various supplements and making recommendations. Back then they were big on Life Extension’s fish oil. So thats what I have used intermittently over the years. No fowl taste. Smells good. But open to other’s advise on this.
