I am having my first scan Friday morning the 4th and I am terrified...I know it doesn't hurt but I am so scared it will give me bad news. I am so in need of hearing something encouraging. My mind has been so preoccupied, I try hard to stay calm but seems I lose more than win since this started. I read about diets and that's very confusing and hard to prepare because my significant other still wants his usual meals. I have been doing it, blindly sometimes. I have been referred to liver dietician but waiting to hear. Wish me luck!! Prayers would be nice too. Thanks

Hi Deb
We are a funny bunch. The fear of knowing is a real burden for many. Worry makes everything harder and more painful so it kind of feeds on itself. The scan will give you a benchmark and from there the things you need to think about will make more sense so good for you for getting it done. There are a lot of people here who understand some check back when you know the situation.

You are taking positive steps. Keep going. The more you learn, the more you can support yourself towards healing instead of harming. ❤️Keep the positive steps.I understand the difficulty with dinner. My husband is the same way. I don’t enjoy the idea of making two meals, so I’ve been experimenting with veggie dishes and adding some meat to his plate. For example I made a big batch of split pea soup with the hambone. But I set half of it aside with no meat, and added the ham to the other. All were happy. ( notice that I’m new to this, and others here may not have used the hambone. I have to take baby steps. I threw away a double batch of a black bean soup made with vegetable stock. Absolutely awful! I’m going to have to ease my way into vegetables and beans… Lol!)
I get trial and error but I have eaten the errors!! I have tried to stick to vegies, fruit, chicken, etc and fish. Low salt or none. I was surprised that most vegies have sodium. I'm still trying to learn about oils and spices, what is good with what. Too bad one of these home delivered meals were appropriate. Some sell Mediterranean meals, you choose what you want. I am ok breakfast and lunch for two but those would be handy for dinner for me, especially the already made ones while I cook for him. Right now I don't feel a lot of energy which I'm sure is anxiety. Not a lot of sleep, once i wake up my mind goes. I look forward to the day I find this life style old hat! Thanks, I will look at those cook books, I have 3 Mediterranean ones I bought seems pretty complicated for one.
I find the true Mediterranean Recipes complicated & ingredients foreign to me. You can look into DASH diet which is low sodium to treat hypertension. Right now I am focusing on adding more vegetable dishes. Cleveland Clinics offers recipes on line…vimeo.com/showcase/inthekit...
For olive oil, I enjoy olive oil from Apollo. Www.ApolloOliveOil.com Wayne introduced me to this company in California. I’m so glad he did. Can sign up for their newsletter online and they send out recipes. I use this fine oil on salads & I buy California Olive Ranch olive oil for cooking. The important thing is to get rid of soy bean oil from your diet. That sneaky little ingredient is in all commercial salad dressings. Sigh
Small steps. 😊
I actually prefer Elastography over any other method. It’s so detailed. But I certainly understand the anxiety and I don’t have a solution.
How did your FibroScan go?
You are so sweet, I was thinking about you. I had it done, hour drive there 5 minute test and results were back before I got home. I have not opened the file yet. Haven't gotten the courage when I know it's 5 days until I see the gastro.
I forgot to mention yesterday I went to see my primary for pain I was having but she push all over the liver and there was no pain so she thought skeletal from riding my stationary bike. She did mention, that everywhere she push felt very soft. Bought some oil you suggested, need something for salads!
I’ve been encouraged by you. 😊 thank you for posting. Suggestion? Open your results so you can process it now. You’ll be prepared with questions for your visit. Make two copies and don’t leave until your questions are answered & you have a plan forward. Or at least the next right step. Ask the doc if he’d be willing to lead a team, and be sure to share the information of who handles your thyroid. A referral to hepatologist would be nice if GI doc not willing to lead. Hugs!
I agree with AllHis... Open now so you can be prepared... If you wait till your Dr tells you, you won't be able to process all the questions until you get Home... Been there done that🤦
