Fibroscan Results

I saw a GI doctor who specializes in liver issues. It's a world of difference to have a doctor who has an understanding of how to treat the liver and the issues people can have.

Despite radically changing my diet I still have pain that rates consistently at a 7 or 8, as well as extreme fatigue. Had a Fibroscan and got the results, but want to follow up with my doctor.

She indicates my liver is 90% fat but I am at Stage 1-2 for scarring or I think that's what she said. I am just in shock about this. She told me losing weight should help relieve my pain. I am about 10 pounds overweight and that's how much she wants me to lose. I was just wondering what results other people had.

Thanks-

Susan

Hi Susan,

Sorry to hear this. Wjhen you say you radically changed your diet could you share what your daily diet is now? What was it prior? More later.. late here.

My diet was not bad before, but now no sugar, few carbs, no junkfood and about 75% vegetables/some fruit. Very frustrated as I am still in pain that ranges from 5/10-8/10 most of the time and extremely exhausted most of the time. My doctor said losing weight will make a difference. I am not obese, about 15 pounds overweight. So far I have lost 8 pounds, no improvement in pain.

Hi,

I’ve had pain now with my liver disease fir over 10 years. I am sad to say they have done nothing to alleviate said pain. Been to GP’S, Internal Medicine Doctors, GI Docs, Pain management centers, and even a PT. No help. I have always been in shape by weight lifting, cardio, non-smoker, non-drinker, and not overweight. But once I reached 40 I needed to lose 30 lbs. My liver doc said by losing the weight my pain should go away. Did lose the weight and still have as much pain as ever. You are clear on where your pain is coming from correct?

Also if you like email me I’m sure we have a lot we can discuss related to health matters.

Susan,

I had the same results from my fibroscan, S3 (88% fat) with Stage 1-2 fibrosis. I suffered from extreme fatigue also, along with constant low back pain and nerve issues for probably 2 years before realizing it was due to my liver. I strongly suspect I have metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, even though my A1C and Glucose remain in the high side of normal range.

I changed my diet to minimize carbs and sugar, by trying to do the 'keto' diet. After six weeks, I lost about 15lbs and quite a bit of the liver 'bloat' I was carrying. I'm no doctor but I feel that much of the liver steatosis was reduced by shifting my metabolism from glucose to ketones via the ketosis, and keeping my insulin spikes minimized.

For the first time in years, I feel my symptoms are getting better rather than worse. Although its only been six weeks and I continue to suffer from fatigue, I think I'm on the right track, and I hope that will be confirmed with the next fibroscan this November.

There are a large number of instructional You Tube videos that discuss diet and fatty liver disease along with metabolic syndrome. I concluded that I need to severely restrict my carb and sugar intake in order to reverse the liver process from storing fat to releasing fat. Keeping the insulin level low through diet and fasting seems to be working but I'm only a couple months into this lifestyle change.

Hi Bill- Glad you feel better and I hope you continue to. I have tried a keto diet before but it makes me quite ill.

I’ve been there, losing weight does help along with walking short distances adding steps every week. I use pedometer on apps. And diet change. Lots of dark green fresh vegetables (spinach). And no fried or frozen foods. Watch sodium and alcoholic drinks. Good luck and healthy liver!!

Yes doing all this and exercising too. So far no improvement but I will keep losing weight and see if it helps! Thanks and I hope you feel better too.

I also was told I have fatty liver. Took that new high tech scan that is suppose to tell you the density of your liver. It said my liver was very dense and had a bad liver. I called BS. I WENT TO A LIVER SPECIAL AND DID A BIOPSY AND BOOM..... my liver is fine!

Well that is certainly good news for you. I would love to have a misdiagnosis but I have had an ultrasound and scan withe same results, and my pain is definitely coming from my liver. My doctor says we will reevaluate in 6 months and see if a biopsy is needed. Thank you for sharing your experience.
