Salt and NASH

Hi people,

I know NASH patients are supposed to keep salt intake to a minimum, but I wonder the reason. Is that only to keep blood pressure in check (which benefits the liver)?

Or is salt also a problem for patients with normal BP?

I think it is obvious that lowering sodium intake is beneficial to all, including healthy people. I thought you were asking for the liver patients in particular. I have recently came across the research that determined that salt contributes to the progress of liver fibrosis. So it is not only the blood pressure increase which is bad for the liver but also the triggering further liver fibrosis. This is scary as I am struggling with the low sodium diet. I can avoid eating anything, but salt is very difficult for me to cut down on. (((( You can google "salt and liver fibrosis" to learn more. This information really worried me (way more than high blood pressure which I don't care since I am on drugs to lower it), so I have started to cut down as much as I can because of this recent information that I have learnt.
