Is taking collagen supplements damaging to your liver? I take collagen powder’s in my coffee in the morning, all types of collagen, and I read somewhere collagen damages your liver. Is that true and I’m thinking I should stop it? Thank you

Well, that is not as simple as it may seem. There are many kinds of collagen and not a lot of real research so we can say that it is generally considered to be safe but we can't prove it. In the normal diet we get a lot of collagen if we eat meat so it isn't much of a concern but if you are dealing with liver disease you should discuss it with your doctor before making it a big part of your diet.

OK I will I became concerned when I read that collagen is very hard on the liver especially type one, which I was taking that plus others. Just to be safe I’m not going to take it any longer but I am going to use SAMe And some other B vitamins

There are some precautions to be aware of with SAMe. Here is a link

I read the information from your link but I must be missing something that you’re seeing because when I saw that SAMe Could be helpful to fatty liver’s, please let me know if I missing something

The link is about drug reactions. Don't know that you take any of them but if you are taking supplements it is important to understand possible conflicts. We don't have an opinion as to whether it is useful for liver disease. That is a question for your doc.

Hi I had the same concerns after reading the article here about collagen. I'd actually ordered a collagen supplement and then cancelled it after reading this article. But I do eat bone broth first thing in the morning and I was wondering if that was hard on my liver. I don't understand the process ...if I'm putting collagenal right into my liver first thing in the morning is that contributing to more scarring? I guess there's just not enough research on it but it's making me question my bone broth now too.

Don't take anything you don't need. Eat whole healthy foods to get your supplements. Always look up what foods contain , and you will usually find what your body needs or what you think it needs through eating healthy foods. Most of these supplements are not worth their weight.
