I suspect I have liver disease. After noticing varicose veins on my feet and legs and swelling of my feet and ankles, I went to a highly regarded vascular surgeon, I was diagnosed with Chronic Venous Insufficiency after having an ultrasound. For those of you who have liver disease, was this a first symptom for any of you?
I have an annual endoscopy Wednesday and I am praying my Gastro doesn’t find varices.
Thank you.

They ARE a very common condition for people with NASH or cirrhosis of the liver, along with swelling in the feet & ankles. These are two common tip offs of liver damage or disease.
I was diagnosed with Chronic Venous Insufficiency after having sonograms done of both legs. The vascular surgeon said the spider and varicose veins along with swelling were caused by CVI. So the question is CVI part of liver disease? I had an endoscopy, gastroenterologist said everything looked normal no varices. Waiting on biopsy results.
I wish you well on getting the proper diagnosis. It took me nearly 5 years to get the right doctor and diagnosis, so I understand the frustration involved. Unfortunately my cirrhosis caused portal vein hypertension and I've had varices repaired over 10 times now. Two years ago I had a hepatic embolism and was near death when they did a TIPS procedure. It seems to have taken care of the high pressure causing the varices, as my last two upper endoscopies have shown minimal changes. Have my fingers crossed for you!!
