Has anyone ever heard of liver damage from statins? I’ve had difficulties with 4 different statins for years (severe leg muscle/joint pain). Diagnosed with fibrosis without significant fatty liver 2 weeks ago but was told by an acquaintance that their fibrosis was caused by reactions to statins. I’m beginning to think this might be my issue as now Crestor is causing unbearable leg pain.

Statins
I am curious to see responses. I was told to take a statin by one person and told no by a specialist.
A high dose of Vytorin, a combo statin, caused biopsy proven liver damage for me 8 years ago. I was told by my GI at that time to not take statins. My liver enzymes were up and down for the next 6 years, then stayed up so long, another liver biopsy was done, and I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. I had a new GP tell me I needed to be on statins about 5 years ago. I refused. A lot of doctors don’t understand or don’t have the knowledge that statins are dangerous to the liver. Please don’t take them!!
My hepatologist has me on Lipitor for high cholesterol. I have PBC and a fatty liver.
I hear from people all the time who are monitored for liver disease while taking statins. It’s sad, but you have to be your own advocate and do the research when the doctor offers only medicine for your health needs. Some meds are necessary, others can be avoided.
