I am still seeking answers about exactly where I am with my fatty liver or Nash. I recently moved to another state, but before I moved my old Dr. had me have an ultrasound done of my liver and they told me I had moderate fatty liver. So I go to a gastroenterologist in the new state who is also a hepatologist. He tells me I have Nash and that we need to do a bunch of blood work or biopsy to get a better idea of where I was. I chose the extensive blood work route because I didn't want to do a biopsy. He said I was stage 0 Nash. I have never heard anyone else in this forum mention this and he didn't explain it well. Can any of you tell me what Nash stage 0 means? Thanks so much.

Nash Stage 0??
Hepatologists think about two different issues, how much fat is in the liver which is staged as S0 - S3 and how much scar tissue or fibrosis there is and that can be F0 - F4. Most people ignore the zeros as that indicates no disease, but assuming he was using this naming strategy he said that while your liver is fatty it has not yet begun to cause fibrosis. Just so you can think about it, ultrasound is very poor at measuring fat and most operators can't detect it below about 30% fat. Generally a moderate measure by ultrasound means somewhere between 33% and 66% fat. Based on these assumptions you are at risk but still in a good position to solve your problem with weight loss and exercise.
However, since I'm not a doctor perhaps he would explain it more specifically for you.
