Don’t blame you. Your doctor would have served you best by offering up dietary information and a fitness program. I hope you will let us know how your Mayo Clinic visit goes. My nephew is a Doctor there.
My nephew has just completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He is headed to a University in the East to start his Gastroenterology fellowship. So excited for him!!
Now about your upcoming liver biopsy. Just a bit of 411 on the procedure and what to expect. Note: I am not a doctor I’m just sharing my experience and knowledge regarding the liver biopsy.
The procedure itself is a piece of cake. There are a few risk as you might imagine but they do thousands of laser guided liver biopsy’s with little to no difficulties. You will feel a slight pinch when the needle goes in but for the most part it’s easy and quick.
To me the results are not 100% accurate because the fact is they can put the needle in at one angle and get one result and put the needle in another time (at a different angle) and get a completely different result. Make sense?
A good Hepatologist will rely on 4-5 important things to give him or her an accurate diagnosis of liver disease and or the extend of liver damage one might have.
1. An MRI or Abdominal CT
2. Blood work
3. Liver biopsy
4. Clinical notes
5. Your symptoms
It is essential to go to a specialist, preferably a Hepatologist. Do your homework and ask a lot of questions.
