I was admitted to hospital with severe upper abdominal pain and was diagnosed with Fatty Liver. I have just read an article on British Medical Journal that Depokote can cause a Fatty Liver. The Consultant in the Hospital didn’t mention this to me and although my diet is good and I don’t drink I am now wondering if this drug has contributed to my Fatty Liver. I have been on the drug 14 years and haven’t had bloods monitored is this normal ? I await GI endoscopy as out patient. Please Help

Depakote has been associated with liver disease for some people. You should be evaluated by a skilled hepatologist to make sure that you understand your status

My husband was on depakote for over 20 years this past year he was hospitalized with confusion due to high ammonia without a change in liver panels recently diagnosed with NASH (he has never been a drinker and was taking it for a seizure disorder) and some kind of odd cyst on kidney which he will be having a CT on in a few weeks. He continues to have issues with his ammonia levels even after being taken off of depakote.
