I had an ultra sound on my liver this last week and it hurt. As the probe was being pressed down I felt some deep pressure and pain. The pain was only when the procedure was being done, no after pain. Why would I be tender and sensitive to the ultra sound and pressure from the probe?

Hi Hope
It is unlikely that the ultrasound itself caused your discomfort, but you apparently are sensitive to the physical pressure of the probe. I can't guess what that might mean, the test itself is painless to most people. It could be that you have a nerve bundle there which happens to react to pressure,as an example, but if you have other reasons to have concern it would be appropriate to ask your doctor because pain is not a normal sensation from a scan. Sorry I can't give you a better answer.

Thank you for your response. I have other areas that are sensitive when pressed. My pcp was saying I might have fibromyalgia, just without the wide spread pain. I do have some of the trigger points. I'll ask my doctor at next visit.
Hi Hope. Did you ever figure out the problem ?. I did also encountered the same when doing the ultrasound. Although my also used to happen when i a doing machine based exercise where my chest is touching the pad. When i pul the machine and put lots of pressure on it then i get the pain.
However, when i touch it normal or press hard then there is no pain. not sure what is happening. Please share your findings if possible
