Just listened to a fascinating episode of the BBC Food Programme. As part of it, 2 gut bacteria were discussed which have a powerful anti-obesity function when they are present in the gut in good numbers.
One scientist said that from having nil present of one of these; christensenella, a 4 day fast had resulted in a high (clinically beneficial) number being present.
I will do more research on fasting and the microbiome, and add it here. I must confess I had been so into thinking about gut bacteria being proliferated/reduced by what we DO eat, that I had not stopped to think it would be impacted when we don't!
