Picolax disimpaction

I’m currently doing a picolax disimpaction with my child. X ray showed stool in the ascending colon. On day 2 of picolax. How do you know if you’ve fully disimpacted? Is it similar to movicol where you get to rusty tea stage?

Hi Starryeyes2000 we do apologise for the delay in replying to you. To our knowledge, we aren't aware of any NICE Guidelines for disimpacting using sodium picosulfate, which is a stimulant laxative. For a disimpaction, NICE Guidelines recommend using a macrogol laxative such as cosmocol, laxido or movicol. eric.org.uk/pdf-a-parents-g... here you can find the guidance, and you will see that some GP's will prescribe a stimulant in addition to the macrogol laxative. The stimulant laxatives should only be given once the poo has been softened my the macrogols. We hope this is helpful for you, best wishes, ERIC
