Disimpaction Advice

Hi everyone. I have posted before about my son and his daytime wetting. He is currently on Oxybutyin twice a day which has reduced his accidents dramatically but he still has no sensation to go and is relying on me to tell him when he should go and try.

He has had constipation issues since he was about 3 (he is now 8) but its only been in the last year that we have had the urine leaks.

2 doctors and the school nurse all think he isnt impacted but I would really like to try this while we are in lockdown and he isnt at school.

I have a prescription of laxido waiting to be collected but it only contains 30 sachets and im going to need at least double that. How do I go about getting g more if the doctors aren't advising it?

Thanks in advance

You can buy a few variety's of contraption relief pills over from supermarkets but you would need to read the small print to see if they are suitable for children under 12. Personally I find bisacodyl the most effective, but you could try mild laxatives like senna alongside his laxido.

You can order laxido online, it's about £5 for 30 sachets.

Or mibby someone could send you some since everyone's kids seem to hate it, lol.

Thanks for replying! I have had a look online and it seems the laxido that you can buy online isn't suitable for under 12's. The one we have is the paediatric plain solution. I just wondered how everyone else goes about disimpaction. Does the doctors give them enough? Because my doctors are useless 🙈

My daughter is on laxido and my GP always accepts the prescription if I’m having to up the dose to disimpact. But she’s been diagnosed with ‘chronic constipation’ following a scan requested by the GP. She is also is a regular daytime wetter (more little leaks than big accidents). Have you considered getting a scan either privately or finding a GP who is more open to exploring the issue further? From my own experiences I’m not sure GPs alone can always fully determine how impacted a child is (hence why we were sent for a scan).

Our local GP referred us to the paediatrician as he was wanting us to get sent for a scan to see what was going on but the paediatrician told me it wouldn't show anything and he didn't need to see my son again, even though we have always had constipation issues and now daytime wetting. I feel a scan is what I want to rule anything out and get a better idea of what's going on. Due to Christmas and Covid its been quite difficult to get in touch with our local GP again but I am going to phone again and push for a scan. I did try going private but anywhere I tried wouldn't scan children.

Curious on the response from your paediatrician. Did he not find anything wrong when he examined your son?

I felt totally deflated after seeing them! He basically said my sons daytime wetting was functional and he just had to listen to his body when he needed the toilet. Before any medication he was having on average 8 accidents a day. Now he is on medication he has 1 or is sometimes dry
