Hi, my daughter aged 7 1/2 years has had an issue with constipation for a few years now. Been on Movicol then recently put on dulcolax and 12th December had an emerald done and then 8th January had another enema done. Now on a Movicol disimpaction regime with Movicol and picosulfate - we are day 4 into it on 10 sachets and still nothing just little loose accidents in underwear. Will be on max dose tomorrow of 12 sachets. I’m thinking if nothing tomorrow I might contact the hospital and speak to a doctor - any advice much appreciated

How does she seem in herself? My DD gets really anxious and tearful when he feels something hard coming. It usually isn’t hard due to all the movicol I think it might be the cramping from the Pico. If she can have a proper clear out hopefully things will improve. Lots of folk seem to have days of maximum dose before things start moving. I don’t know how the kids do it!!! They must have sphincters of steel.

Hopefully you both get a break soon.

Thank you, her mood changes - one minute she is tearful and belly really hurts and then it will pass and she is happy again. Isn’t liking the Movicol much and sometimes taking 2 hours to finish, but I did managed to get 10 sachets down her today, and spoon fed her some fruit and really off eating any good stuff. I’ll see how we go tomorrow and decide whether to contact hospital or leave for a couple more days. You just read up that is should start working after 1 or 2 days and think why isn’t it. N it’s the constant time off school n me off work - but hey ho we just have to muddle through don’t we.

Hi my daughter is also 7, she’s been chronically constipated from around 6 months. We also take huge amounts of movicol and pico sulfate daily as a maintenance dose, it can take days to work through the system eventually it will come, it depends how bunged up they are! X
