Hi, I have to give my 4 year old movicol for disimpacation, DR said give him 4 sachets for two days, then up it to 6 sachets for 2 days which I understand, but do I give him it a sachet at a time in a drink or do I make say 2 sachets in a 120ml of water then added it to his juice in one go?
any advice is really appreciated x

Hi, as long as he drinks that amount over the course of the day and as long as each sachet has the required amount of water you can give it to him however you can get him to drink it through out the day. I used to mix a sachet with the water then add it to milkshake as masked the taste (it's a weird salty kind of taste)
Hi. If you've never given it to them before then be careful. Our 4yo son couldn't take movicol but it took 3 days before he was sick every time he ate or drank. We rested him for 2 weeks then tried again to see if it was a bug or the movicol; Again it was the movicol which took a further 2 weeks to get him back to normal and that was after 3 only doses at half a sachet per day! So he went back to lactulose but that worked for a week and even upping the dose he is still not right. So back to the doctors next week.
My 7 year old did a disimpaction at May half term. I made it all up in a morning with correct water. We started at 4, then 6, 8, 10 up to 12 sachets. I added juice and kept it in the fridge, giving him a bit each hour. Important to give other fluids too as the water with movicol doesn't hydrate them as it binds with movicol to go to the bowel.
Hope this helps and good luck. My son has been accident free since we did the disimpaction. Wish it had been suggested years ago!
Yes we take more than 1 sachet a day and I make it up and keep it in the fridge, adding it to drinks and wet food. It tastes pretty foul so I'm not surprised we have to sneak it in!
