Hi my 9 year old is still from time to time bed wetting she can stay dry for weeks at a time then will have a 2-3 accidents in a week , she’s very down about it and embarrassed as she’s nearly 10 , we’ve restricted dark drinks and monitored her water intake for so long it’s wearing us down , we’ve been under the incontinence nurse for two years now , never had kidneys checked and only just today been offered a bed alarm to try the nurse says because my daughter doesn’t wet 2-3 times a week regular she can’t be offered any medication to help stay dry as she has proved she can stay dry at times , has anyone had success with the bed alarms ? it seems are only option as the nurse is saying my daughter can’t try the medication to help stay dry

Hello. My daughter is of the same age and we have the same problem now. We were much worse.

We were offered an alarm and I would say it has been successful I’m the fact that she is able to wake and use the toilet in the night. We are not 100% dry every night but are having more dry nights than wet, so yes I would say try the alarm.

Your daughter may not be recognising the signs of needing to go during her sleep, and it retrains the brain to wake her when bladder is beginning to leak.

Have you investigated constipation?

Now that my daughters bed wetting is not every night, it is a little easier to complete a process of elimination, and this is one of the areas we have investigated and are now treating.

Good luck, and remember you’re not alone

Thankyou for replying so nice to here a positive about the bed alarm as the nurse wasn’t very positive about it , yes my daughter is on laxido to move bowels everyday she has done this for two years now but doesn’t seem to be helping with the wetting , she used to wet every week but now can go so long then it’s back again we’re so strict with everything dark drinks and how much water she drinks but she’s seeing me as nagging and it’s causing lots of frustration in her , sure we‘ll get there we’re staying positive about giving the alarm a try thankyou for replying
