So, my wee girl saw a paediatric gastroenterologist at the end of may, due to her constant leaking and her telling me she didn’t feel the need to go. He felt her abdominal and told us there was no backlog of poop, but upped her movicol from 1 sachet to 2 sachets, and said if it got too runny to cut it back to 1 sachet with 5ml picosuplhate. Which is what she’s been on for about a month.
To date, she has been going every day, usually between 5-6 on the scale, and there have been a few accidents. Namely 12 days ago in school, although she had gone in the morning, she lost control about 3pm and had an accident in school where it was very runny. Since that she has been ok again, going daily (with the exception of Sunday past); usually twice a day.
This morning she went first thing, and because she did I didn’t prompt her to go after breakfast. About 11.00 she lost control again, there was a lot of poop, but this time there was mucus in it-which we’ve never seen before.
Any ideas what this could mean? I thought of blockage but because she has been going since her appt, and there wasn’t a blockage then I find it hard to believe there’s one now... we’ve 4 weeks til our next appointment

My daughter was only a baby when this happened and it signified an allergy to cow’s milk protein. But she also had blood in the stool occasionally so unlikely to be the same issue but thought I’d share just Incase. Best of luck.
Hi my daughter had a lot of mucus, I was told that when something is stuck, or when inflammation, is in the bowels the body produces mucus to help to move along poo, and also to protect the intestines. When you get a lot of mucus it means the body is irritated by something and is trying to get it out of the body. My daughter had her tummy examined for months, I was told all ok, but she was not, her whole large bowel was full and fecal coated, her rectum has stretched and she eventually nearly died of sepsis.. GPs did not give me the proper advice, like you they said when poo goes runny STOP the movicol. If there is a big mass or blockage of poo, this runny poo is the outside of the mass melting out. You have to wait for the big lumpy parts to come out also. The problem could still be sitting there, only slightly smaller. Constipation can kill, my daughter was in hospital for 5 weeks, I demanded an MRI which consultants said she did not need...I saved her life as they was about to send her home again...Trust your instincts, they the are the truth...You know if something is wrong. Sorry to go on but so many specialists have let my daughter down. Paramedics also did not think she had sepsis as no rash, just high temp... Rose did have sepsis, and we nearly lost her. Mucus is a sign something not right, it could be even a parasite, bug, poo stuck, irritated intestines, been through it all we have. I am not medically trained, I am just a mom that has had to Google to get answers...Take care Hope everything works out. x From jo.
Thank you... I’ve started a disimpaction this week. The dr said there was no blockage but seeing as we are off school now it feels a good time to make sure everything is out and hopefully move on from here. We’ve our next appt in 3 weeks so fingers crossed we’re well on our way to being sorted 🤞🏻
