Night time bed wetting 7 year old / type 1 diabetic

Hi I'm new here and this is my first post. Really need some advice relating to my 7 year old son.

He wears pull ups every night as he wets himself every night. He is type 1 Diabetic too so when his blood sugars are on high side, he obviously tends to wee more.

Tried everything from waking him up during night, no drinks after 6pm, alarms etc, nothing seems to work. He's such a deep sleeper even when he wets the bed he doesn't wake up.

Not sure if he can go on medication due to it affecting his diabetes but might have to see if it is possible as I know he's getting embarrassed about it now and I'm at my wits end.

I know during the day at school he doesn't drink enough so that may have something to do with night time bed wetting. He is completely dry during day, just nights that are a problem

Any advice on what I should do next please?

Hi, my son is the same, he is 8 in September, we have opted to not make a big deal out if it as my husband wet the bed until he was 9. He grew out of it so we are hoping this is just a genetic/ hereditary thing. Our GP said the hormone needed to wake him up to go for a wee in the night may simply be a little delayed development wise. I understand you can get blankets which detect when a child starts wetting the bed and then sound an alarm to wake them up. You can also get hormone tablets which can be used as a short term solution by helping to produce the necessary hormone to wake them up and they can be given if, for example, your child had a residential trip with school. We haven’t tried either but I know they are available. Good luck with it all x

P.S) my brother is type 1 diabetic since 2, I can’t recall him having bedwetting issues so I’m not sure if there is a specific link

Thank you. I'm sure it will come naturally. Had a bad night with both bed wetting and blood sugars last night so just needed some advice. Thanks for your reply x

I totally get it... these things definitely do sometimes get on top of us all! I sympathise as I know how tough it was for my mum bringing up my brother with type 1 diabetes and having to permanently monitor him stay on top of his blood sugars. I have one son (7) wetting the bed and my other son (nearly 5) suffers from bowel incontinence and is off to school in September. I’m not sure the worrying ever stops! X
