How to come off Laxido?

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone could give some advice about coming off Laxido. My sons been on it off and on for two years. We’re finally at a stage where he is passing a stool on the toilet so looking to reduce and come off it. Can anyone advise how to come off it gradually? What dosage do you give? How do you ensure they drink enough? Any foods you have added to diet or recipes for snacks with prunes etc. I don’t want to bring him off Laxido straight away and then he has difficulty passing a stool.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We did it when my son was younger very very gradually and went from 3 sachets to a third of a sachet over maybe one or two years and then eventually no movicol. Sadly he became constipated again over a year ago and now the problem is severe and can’t be managed with medication. Based on our experience I would say go slow and stay aware of what their poo is like for years to come. Also if they continue needing movicol don’t be shy to give it to them. With hindsight I wish we had never stopped my sons movicol but hindsight is a great thing..

Hi. When you say 'cant be managed with medication' . What do you mean? Im still scared ive done the right thing, I've recently stopped my daughters medicine as she was getting severe side effects and the medication wasn't working after a while and we were having to change and increase the doses until we'd tried all the differrenttt medication and nothing really worked. Its been 3 weeks now since we stopped. Initially poos were hard but that was the same as on medication too and now

She goes for a poo twice a week but I do nag her to drink and she's on a food supplement that has alot of your daily nutrients and pro and prebiotics.

Thanks in advance

My son can’t open his bowels, he just soils regardless of the meds and fills up with poo and then has to go to hospital. He also can’t pass lower wind which causes him chronic pain. The good thing is his hospital apptmt is this week to see the surgeon and hopefully be prescribed qufora. Fingers crossed!!! Something has to change, he can’t carry on as he is. Your daughter is pooing twice a week and if my son did that I would be over the moon!

Its so sad that he's going

Through so much. It must break your heart. My daughter is lucky in the sense that she doesn't get soiling. The poo nurse always asks me this. I wasn't aware it was connected to constipation. He can't go on like this. pray from tge bottom of my heart that everyone has good health, especially kids.

I read in so many places that laxatives are only a short term solution and over use will lead eventually to them becoming ineffective. I was seeing this downward spiral transpiring very quickly in my daughter where everything stopped working so I decided , only time will tell if I should have, to stop everything. She has been doing well but when she tells me she has a stomach ache I'm so worried again. But the poos are coming and on their own so far... I will keep updating on here so that people can see if it worked. For who ever it helps. ..even if it's one person .
