5 year old wetting bed at night and not waking

I’m new to this community and my son was potty trained in the day at aged 3. He is nearly 6 now. However he has never had a dry nappy at night. 8 days ago, we took the plunge and went without nappies. In the first few days he wet himself each night twice and woke up asking to be changed. This is naturally quite hard going back to lack of sleep however I ramained calm and each morning have given a small reward for trying. As the week went on, he has only woken once first thing in the morning but still wet. I had assumed we were making progress however the last couple of nights I have woken at 2am and 6am and gone and checked on him and each time he is wet but hasn’t been waking in the night. Looking at the helpful leaflet on this site he may not always be drinking enough at night but may also be a deep sleeper so may need the alarm. The questions I have is how long do I keep going before reverting back to putting him back in a nappy? Could he just not quite be ready? And if I do keep going, do I start with the alarm straight away? Im not sure both of us can cope for too much longer with sleepless nights but I am willing to do anything. I’d love to hear any similar stories and outcomes. We have started to increase the amount he drinks in the day and also limited how much he has after 5pm however he gets home from after school club at 6 and needs a small drink with his dinner. Thanks.
