Good afternoon, I need some advise on how to best support my husband. He was on epilum for a few years until last year when they changed it to Tegritol. Hi neurologist said that his seizers is no longer effecting his whole brain as he still has some normal brain function when he has a seizer. His muscles on his right side looses control and his mouth twitches. After changing to tegritol, his seizers is much less. Is there any home remedy he can use so that it is completely controlled?
He has been medically boarded from his company twice now already and was told if they board him again it will be permanently. What is his options and what financial assistance is available to him? He has received UIF for the first 6 months and just once this second time. Could you please help, he has worked very heard to achieve what he has achieved and we are struggling to get proper advice on what his options are.
Thanking you in advance.

This must be a very difficult time for both of you.
Epilepsy and seizures can be very unpredictable and often changes as people age. This is why people speak about children "outgrowing" epilepsy.
There should be no reason for your husband to be medically boarded if he has partial seizures, but this would depend on the type of work he does.
The best way to control seizures is to follow the treatment prescribed by the doctor rather than any home remedies.
It would be best for the two of you to interact directly with one of our social workers who will be able to provide you with specific advice based on your circumstances. Please email info@epilepsy.org.za and let us know where you live so that we can arrange support and advice for you you. Our team is operating despite the lockdown but will obviously not be able to see you face-to-face.
We wish you courage and strength and look forward to interacting with you.
