Unsure if this is a seizure or not.

Hi I was diagnosed with TLE in 2020 after 4 years of "episodes" which my GP put down to depression or panic attacks. I was started on Lamotrigine & have been stable since.

Last week I went to bed as normal but hubby noticed in the night that I had a lot of jerks that went on repeatedly for about 40 mins. He stayed awake until they subsided. I was totally unaware of this & slept through it. I got up feeling dreadful the next morning then hubby told me what had happened. I remember having really bad restless legs prior to getting to sleep but that's all.

My question is should I be worried & should I contact my epilepsy nurse? I'm so worried they take my licence away again but obviously aware that if this is a different type of seizure then it needs to be investigated.

Thanks in advance

Yes, I think you shoul consult with your Epilepsy Nurse. It maybe that you have nocturnal or more accurately described as "asleep" seizures. In either case, you MUST stop driving and return your license to the DVLA. I know that is damn nuisance as I loved driving but had to stop .for a few years until my epilepsy was completely stabilised for a year. Your consultant will be able to give you more details of this. By the way, I found that Lamotrogine reduced the number of seizure, but my Neurologist added Levetitcetam (Keppra) to my medication and I have now been seizure free for 8 years. Good Luck!
