bone density scans and zoladex really confused .

I asked a queson a little while ago about the long term use of zoladex.I'm 42.

Thankyou for your replys .my concern is bone density on long term use and some some one sugested having a bone density scan after 6 months but the last gyeani Dr i saw 3 months ago said i only need one after 2 years of having zoladex.I'm really confused now .My GP doesnt appear to have a clue about this and now I've been discharged from the hospital dont know where to go with this as i cant reffer my self for a scan what should I do?

I really want to keep on with the Zoladex for the time being and have just had my 7th implant but I feel on my own with this now .I did think it was strange to discharge me on Zoladex a yearly appointment would have been really useful to clear things up such as this quiry but I was basically told to get on with it .I am aware of the long term risks of Zoladex but you have to believe these professionals what else can we do?

Please where do I go from here?Bxxx

Hi Mablesky

I will also be on a long-term GNRH treatment and have been advised to have a bone density scan after 2 years. This was advised by my GP with whom I had a full and frank discussion about why I didnt want to take HRT in any form. He was very understanding of my situation and ultimate decision; I don't want to take HRT due to the likelihood of it providing my body with oestrogen which fuels endo. I havent yet discussed the timing of a bone density scan with my gynae but I will add it to my list of questions for the next appointment!

What also concerns me is that you are no longer the care of a gynae despite ongoing treatment namely your zoladex injections. Are these given to you by the nurse at your GP's surgery? Hopefully someone is looking after you and checking you are not having any untoward symptoms or bad side-effects! It does sound rather worrying that you have been left without follow-up tbh.

If anything your hospital should have left you with an open appointment. That means if you need to see your gynae again you contact his secretary and do not have to go through the process if being re-referred from the beginning.

Can you see another GP in your practice and perhaps one with an interest in women's health issues? Sorry not to be able to offer further help or advice but hope you get sorted soon.

Caroline, x

Hi Caroline

Thanks for your reply.yes i still cant believe I have been discharged I had a letter from the Gyni i saw but he says nothing about actually being discharched but that is what he told me when i saw him .I did email his secretary to see if i could have a folow up in say 6 months and had no reply been a month now .The sad thing had i seen my usual gyni this would not have happened but I seem to out of the system now.

I do have implants with nurse at surgery but she is always so rushed they are just shoved in and off I go Ho Hum!!!Having said this things are going ok but it is no means plain sailing with the Zoladex!!!!

THanks again and I hope you are well at present

Bxxx
