the docs would say yes as its definitely beneficial to a speedier recovery, but only you know if it will help/hinder you emotionally/stress wise. I stopped this summer and had a lap.a few weeks ago, my recovery was relative quick but n ot much in it from a lap chole (gallbladder) I had 3 yrs ago whilst still smoking.
goodluck 4 the lap x
You could at least try to cut down? I smoke and cut down to 5 a day before my lap. It's more to do with the anesthetic than recovery time though. I am currently waiting for my nicotine vapouriser to arrive to see if that will help me to stop. I know from training as a pharmacist assistant that when we smoke it contracts ors bowels which is why first thing in the morning you need a poo right after your first fag of the day. I get pain before a bowel movement and I'm wondering if that will ease if I stop. I'll let you all know if it makes any difference.
Good luck with the lap and don't push yourself afterwards xxx
Wow I wish I hadn't read that! I quit in March this year - I am 35 and my consultant wanted to put me on Prostap with HRT but wouldn't if I smoked, so I stopped! Shame the Prostap didn't work. I don't feel any better for not smoking either though maybe I can get up the stairs a little easier and my wallet feels happier! But that's it! I was told the opposite about surgery though - I broke my leg in May needing surgery - when the cast came off end of June the wound got infected, most likely because I had smoked. Weird that I'd quit in March though cos having a broken leg makes it really hard to get outside! 7 floors up in the hospital with no-one to push me in a wheelchair and being able to walk only 10 metres on crutches (much more tiring than you think...) Still miss it though, but won't be starting again!
