1st gynae appt

Hi Ladies

I have my first gynae appointment tomorrow and I am just wondering what happens?? Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Rach,

They will ask about your symptoms so I'd take a list with you so you don't forget any. I just gave them my list to read lol. They may want to do an internal examination but all the ones I've had with consultants have been ok and I find them to be more gentle than gp's.

In my first appointment she read my list, did an internal and then booked me in for a lap. I have heard of consultants trying treatment before a lap but most go straight in there to have a look.

Wait.....I might get an internal???? what the hell!! haha sounds very unpleasent, i hate getting a smear test never mind someone pocking around in there! (sorry if thats gross but came as a wee shock there haha)

I have a list....and filled in the things i found on endouk site. Is it normal to be worried that they wont believe me?

Hi Rach,

Mine was just a conversation with no examination but it was mostly about symptoms etc. I was booked in for a lap and prescribed the pill - as if it works they are more confident that it is endo, and that if I got on with it I could cancel the lap. Good luck and remember to write down and ask any questions you might have as I thought of things I forgot after my appointment.

Also, I have been asked to take a urine sample, is this normal?

I didn't have to take one, but I have had to provide samples at the GP, and an early morning sample once before (they like early morning ones when checking for pregnancy as there will be a higher level of hormones than in a later one). Good luck! A

Sorry to say bit i think an internal maybe on the cards for your first visit - I had one and they also took a scraping of the wall of my womb, so be prepared for this.
