morning, i exercise and find it really helps. its hard to get motivated but if u can then try it. x
I used to be the kind of person who was at the gym every day, or swimming, or running. I can't do any of that now, but still do something everyday. I generally stick to walking, or energetic cleaning and gardening! Exercise doesn't have to be at the gym, pulling up weeds, walking from the shop with a few pints of milk, and hoovering the stairs still get your heart rate going and use your muscles if you do them with enough gusto!x
I go to pilates and yoga - yoga is helpful because there are poses that can help with the pain. Pilates helps get my pelvic floor nice and strong etc. So a combination helps me a bit (although currently going through a bad time with it). I also dance. I would thoroughly recommend it. Gets you moving, there's great women in my class so we all have a laugh, even when I'm in a rotten mood I come out smiling by the end. So I recommend finding something you want to do basically, something to make you smile and still get you moving.
I do Bikram yoga. It helps a lot and it keeps me flexible. I find that endo sometimes has me waking up with very stiff back pain. The more yoga I do the better I feel.
i must admit 6 months ago i would've said exercise?!? are you joking, i can barely go shopping without being laid up after but i am in the process of losing weight as apparently all my symptoms are down to my weight (only overweight ladies get large ovarian cysts and heavy, painful periods according to my consultant but hey ho that's another story lol) but in my mission to prove that not all my problems are down to my weight i joined slimming world at the end of march this year and so far have lost just over 2st. it's been really hard and the weight loss is very erattic but its coming off at an average of 2lb a week, i'm happy with that - i also attend weight management with the nhs, they hold exercise classes twice a week, just circuits but they do get you puffing and sweating etc and you can feel the muscles working. i am also walking everyday, weather permitting, as my dogs refuse to go out in the rain, but i am doing the walking rather than sending the kids out with them.
i plucked up the courage to join the gym about 3 wks ago, mainly for days when its raining (and we've had so much rain lately) the first week i think i was doing too much as by the end of the week i just pretty much collapsed with exhaustion, now i have said 3-4 sessions max either of the circuits or the gym, plus my dog walks - i do have to find the energy some days, and the motivation but once i've done it i feel great, even if i start off in pain it does not get any worse whilst exercising, apart from the rowing machine that does cause me sharp pains where my cyst is.
anyway, my point is that although i am still in constant pain, my dull everyday pain i call it, the severe pain kicks in everyday but can be from 30 seconds to several hours, but i feel that because my body is stronger that it is dealing with the pain much better than it used to, and i suppose the 2st off has helped too - i have to lose another 2st in order for them to perform my lap - i did post about exercise the other week, asking why i can manage to exercise without much more pain but weekly food shop cripples me, carrying my work bags or carrying a basket of wet washing out to the line cripples me, it still does and i still do not understand how this can be but all the while it does not cause me any further pain i will keep trying to exercise xxx
Oh my goodness! I can't believe what your consulatant is like!! I am a size 10. 9 1/2 stone. I have endo, fibroids etc. my last gynae attempted to do a full hysterectomy and only managed to remove a 12cm cyst and the ovary it was attached to! She told me that the endo is stuck to my bowel & bladder and could not perform the hysterectomy, and discharged me with a course of Prostap, with the advice of taking the pill with no break kind of forever!
I am going for a second opinion. I urge you to do the same. Some consultants have no idea how to deal with this disease!
It sounds like you are doing well and trying really hard, take care & good luck x
i know, its so frustrating, but its very easy for doctors to blame conditions on weight, they didn't seem to take into account that before i went to my gp, my activity had declined so much as i could hardly go out, my work has decreased from 45-60 hr week to just 8-12 hrs, which has contributed to some of the weight gain but hey ho - i have another scan tomorrow to check on size of my ovarian cyst, gp is referring me back to gynae regardless of whether its grown or not, then i'm going to have to stand my ground as i'm fed up of being fobbed off xxx
If you are scared of doing exercise due to pain and fatigue, as a womens health physio I would recommend doing tai chi, which is a very gently form of exercise compared to yoga and pilates. It is slow, flowing movements which you can do in standing or in sitting. It also involves breathing exercises which are known to help chronic pain and fatigue. Whatever you intend to do, start small, and build up form there.

well i dont do exercise at all but i do walk around alot though at work... doing things like going downstairs and upstairs and sometimes it tiring.. like they all said to a little exercise as possible... x
Thanks so much guys for your answer, I am just out of A and E with severe uexplained abdomen pain! i tuk every painkiller under the sun and nothing worked then my GP told me to go back and all i got was a morphine injection neglect and sent back home!
worth71 - Rainey6373 is right i am 7.5 stone which is me at my biggest and I am suffering the same as you, they also said to me i wouldnt have a problem with the laparoscopy and the rest of the operation and I recovered longer than expected and received no benefits.
Miwa - good idea might try tai chi first!
I do yoga for 20 minutes 3x a week on my own at home before I shower in the morning, I cycle regularly when doing errands and I do a longer yoga class at a gym 1x a week. I don't do yoga the week of my period but the rest of the month I try do it as much as possible.
remember that exercise will reduce your stress hormones and your overall well being which will help you deal with he pain when it comes but also reduce the factors that increase inflammation.....so it's very important.
Oddly, I find horse riding really helpful. I think it must be to do with strengthening my tummy musles. I ride nearly everyday now. Finding somthing that relaxes you is the key I think. And something you enjoy enough to feel motivated.
