I had my gallbladder removed aged 20, some time after that I went on the pill. Whilst on the pill I suffered liver problems, I also had lots of pain in that area and was later diagnosed with Sphinctre of Odi Dysfunction. I also had liver cholestasis during both my pregnancies, the 2nd being the worst.

Anyway, the reason I am saying all this as I believe oestrogen is the problem! Too much oestrogen from the pill caused my first liver probs and high oestrogen in pregnacy causes cholestasis. I am not allowed any oestrogen (eg pill), so my options for endo treatment are limited. Also they are not sure I can have hrt as this contains oestrogen.

I was only diagnosed with endo last year, but have always had awful periods. I look at my own history and believe there is some prob with oestrogen (endo loves oestrogen). I am not a medical person, so not sure what the prob is, but getting docs to listen and take a look at the whole picture is very difficult, to say the least.

Hope this is in some way helpful, I just thought I would share my info with you. What sort of liver probs do you have? xx

Hi Lucy thanks for replying to my question. I had an ultrasound last week and they've found fat and a dark area on my liver. I have to have an endoscopy on Monday and further scans on my liver. I had a total hysterectomy ten years ago and they wouldn't give me hrt. I have pain around my right abdomen. I am still in pain from adhesions on my bowel. I was just wondering if it was all connected. X

Hi,

I have GIlberts syndrome, which is when the liver produces too much bilirubin. This is hereditary, but I think gets worse due to my endo. The liver has to break down oestrogen, and when my endo is bad, I feel my gilberts is worse as I get fatigued from the liver having to work too hard.

After coming of Depo provera, about 8 years ago, I started suffering with very troublesome acid reflux affecting my throat. It was about the same time as my divorce and so I put it down to stress. About two years ago, I was struck with unbearable stomach pain. I would be in agony if I eat anything at all. I lost two stone in three months. The doctors seemed to think I was a hypochondriac. I knew that NSAIDs could aggravate it, so I stayed well clear sticking to paracetamol. I had to ditch caffeine altogether (which had the benefit of almost completely curing the migraines I'd been suffering with for many, many years).

Eventually I had a gastroscopy and was diagnosed with gastritis and given Lanzoprazole, which helped a bit.

After an ultrasound for pelvic pain, I was told everything looked fine, but I had a polyp on my gallbladder. I asked if that could have caused the stomach problems and was told "no". I asked if it was possible that the polyp was, in fact, endo (I'd already been diagnosed with endo years before), and the idea was completely dismissed.

My stomach pain gets worse before a period. It could be PMT/stress related.

8 weeks ago, I had my second lap for endo and I mentioned the polyp and asked if the doctor could take a look at my gallbladder. I was told it was too far up to be able to see, but I think mentioning it made the doctor take a good look around.

This time, they found: endo on one ovary; other fallopian tube blocked; 4 adhesions of the bowel - they managed to remove 3; and, 'fibrotic appearance to the liver', The doctor was really concerned about this. I was shown the photos and the stuff on the liver looked exactly the same as the adhesions, it had just sort of bridged the ridge between the left and right lobe. She didn't get to see the gallbladder.

So, now I'm thinking that the polyp on the gallbladder could, indeed, be endo and that the fibrotic stuff on the liver is associated scarring. My liver function has been checked and that's normal, but surely, endo on the gallbladder and scaring on the liver could be causing my stomach acid imbalance, couldn't it?

I've now been on Lanzoprazole for two years and I still have to be careful with my diet.
