I have been prescribed Dienogest.I am seriously struggling to get hold of it at any pharmacy?

The hospital said, they don't have any in and won't order any?

So my consultant gave me another prescription form so I can try anywhere else. But I've been calling around and nowhere stocks it?

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

Tash

hello,

This doesn’t look like a new issue here is a 2022 post with a similar problem.

When I have this trouble with my thyroid meds I contact the manufacturer’s UK office and ask if there is a supply problem and usually it’s the ‘middleman’ wholesalers who don’t have stock. If you get the manufacturer to confirm which wholesalers have it you can ask the pharmacies if they use those wholesalers.

I found an NHS page that said 8 forms of 2mg dienogest were discontinued but as in the pic here it looks like there is a supplier in Kent you could look up and call.

I haven’t personally had this problem but I’ve heard quite a few that have. My parents live in Spain and they can also get it over the counter there which is mad considering how hard it was to get my doctors to put me on it 🙄 anyway, I can spare a box / month worth if you’re in pain and want to start the treatment when you get this sorted? Let me know and I can figure out sending it to you.

Hi Tash, I had the same problem when I was prescribed this. It's not commonly used on the NHS but has done wonders for me. I found that I have to go to a large boots in the city centre which can order this in when required. All my smaller local pharmacies either can't get ahold of it or simply do not order it in due to cost.

Thank you for all your replies.I managed to find a pharmacy that would order it for me.

I'm confused because my consultant says she was giving me 3 months worth. And I've only got 28 tablets. She told me it will take 3month to take effect.

So I'm reluctant to start taking them. As I'll have to go through all of this stress again (every few weeks) to get a prescription from my consultant. As its taken since February to get this one? GPS aren't allowed to prescribe it. So everytime I want more tablets, I'll have to try get in touch with the consultants PA. It just seems too much of a stress each month. Plus I didn't know I would be paying for it. It thought because it was hormonal, it will be free? Like the pill?

So that's another reason I don't wanna be on it. My only other option is to try the marina coil. Which I've booked myself in for in 2 weeks time.

I just wish there was an easier way around getting hold of this drug.

I phoned 8 pharmacist today and all said no they couldn't help me. Shocking

My suggestion would be to ask your consultant if they can put you on a repeat prescription for it - if that's possible, it should stop you having to keep going back to your consultant to ask for the meds when they run out.
