More prostasp or hysterectomy?

Just wondered what to expect when I get to the end of my 3months of Prostap I've been prescribed and meet with my consultant again. How will she decide whether to prescribe more or just go ahead with a hysterectomy (which is my preference)? Also, because I'm private am I able to just tell her I want to go ahead with the hysterectomy rather than dragging things out with the prostap? Any advice gratefully received x

I would say ask for what you want. It’s your body. If you know then ask! Especially if you are private. When I started my prostap they told me it’s licensed for 6 months but don’t like you to be on it for more than a couple of years. My understanding is it’s very much an interim measure to reduce growth for other surgery/treatment? Unless you are lucky and it magically makes everything better.

You know your body best. You should be at the centre of your care and ultimately have choice 💪✨

Thank you!! Yes think I need to stand my ground a bit more and just tell her what I'm thinking and what I want. I don't feel any better on the prostap - not as much pain but plenty of side effects x

Prostrap and zoladex can be used to help women who have a long wait to a hysterectomy. This is why so many women are on them at the moment. Some of us are on them because we can't have a hysterectomy and we are under a specialist endometriosis clinic which helps us. If you are going private and need a hysterectomy then just do it. I woke up after my hysterectomy to find they'd abandoned it due to advanced endo. Getting your hormones balanced post operation will take some time but I would do it to get my life back if I had the chance.

Thank you, I've booked in an appt with the consultant for mid-October so hopefully can just tell her then what I want to do. I really hope you manage to get one soon x
