Reassurance for laparoscopy excision surgery

I'm just after a bit of reassurance really.

I'm under an endo specialist and I've booked in for excision surgery in August, but I so scared that they're not going to find anything.

I've already been told there is an endometrioma on one of my ovaries and 'normal' cysts on the other. My ovaries however are 'stuck' behind my uterus and they 'confirmed' endometriosis and it would be impacting my fertility.

I have terrible pains in my pelvis, back, legs and on bowel movements and it impacts my life. I know I'm lucky that I can afford to go private for this surgery as the wait time for NHS is ridiculous, but I'm concerned I'm going to pay all this money on surgery that might not find anything else, won't stop my pain and won't help with becoming a mother.

I apologise for the rant, but I'm hoping that someone has been in this position and come out the other side in a positive way 🤞

Have you had an mri with contrast to show a detailed picture of endo before surgery? I've just had stage 4 excision, multiple cysts removed, ovaries kissing, bowel stuck to uterus. It sounds like you have stage 4 too, so I wouldn't worry about them not finding anything. Hopefully it's an endo expert doing your surgery and not a general gynae. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.Yes I'm under a lovely endo specialist. I've not had a mri but they saw my endometrioma and stuck ovaries on my ultra sound apparently. He has said from my symptoms and my ultra sound that its likely to be severe. Which is why I'm having the laporoscopy, cystocopy and hysteroscopy. You spend years in pain and constantly bleeding and being told that it's just a period.

I think I'm just scared they won't find anything else or a cause of my infertility.

Hi,

Although I’m sorry you are going through this difficult journey, I’m so happy you have an Endo Specialist treating you :) that’s such good news and that means that they know what they are looking for.

I completely understand your fear though as it’s a lot of money. I’ve also gone down the private route. I have mine booked for 18th May in Bedford and they have seen Adeno on an MRI but couldn’t see DIE. I know that even stage 1 Endo can be agonising and suspect my Endo just didn’t show on the MRI. My Endo Specialist is the first person in 3 years that has actually listened to me and validated my symptoms.

I would say from what you wrote, you are in good hands and I hope your surgery goes well with a good recovery. Would love to know how it goes in August :)
