Infertility with endo

Hi,

I am only 19 years old and do not want children as of now, however, I have been reading up about how endo can lead to infertility and the idea of not having the choice in the future seems quite scary to me. I have never been able to see myself as a mum and as of now am 100% sure about not having children in the future, however I would prefer to choose whether or not I have them and not have this condition choose for me. Does anyone know the likelihood of infertility with endo?

it’s hard to say as the condition could get worse over time but you will know if u decide in the future that u would like children. The GP can do a test to see what your fertility rate is like as such … surgery etc can have an inpact of surgery is on your ovaries. But it’s completely normal to not know if you want children or not you’re only 19! I’m 24 almost 25 and I don’t have a clue. No one really knows until they settle down etc but everyone’s life is different, try not to put pressure on yourself to decide but it is hard to know how much endo will have an inpact. Of course u could freeze your eggs but it costs around 10 grand and the NHS do not pay for it and it’s not always certain that it will work.

Hello

I was diagnosed with Endo just before my 23rd birthday after 5 years of struggling to get help. I always knew I wanted children. Yes Endo can take this away from you. a nasty sneaky thing that can give you a glimmer of hope only to snatch it from your grasp. Sorry to sound so dramatic but that’s how it can go. It took me 7 years to fall pregnant, sadly my little one didn’t make it and I had to have surgery as I didn’t miscarry, signing that paper for them to take my baby away was the most appalling thing I’ve even had to do. I then had further miscarriages and a ruptured ectopic. I was never able to have children. Sometimes this awful disease has other ideas to what we want, sometimes your body can fight back and prove the medical teams wrong, I was told I’d never even fall pregnant so that was a poke in the eye for Endo! Only you can make the right choice for you, gather your information, find a good gp and good consultant, see if you have a fertility nurse attached to you gynae clinic, they may help with tests on ovulation and just advise/listen. That way you have information to make an informed decision. At the end of the day you have to do what is right for you. I’m now 50 and had a hysterectomy last October as I’d been bleeding for 7 months Endo had also stuck my bowel to my womb so I ended up with emergency bowel surgery and a colostomy bag. There goes Endo again disrupting my “simple” hysterectomy. It was 50/50 I’d pull through surgery but I was too stubborn to let Endo win. I’m having colostomy reversal surgery in the summer then up to a year recovery. Endo may have taken my babies but I’m going to have the final say on this one. Sorry if I was a bit dramatic or graphic but it’s the only way to explain. Good luck with your Endo care.

Hi, when i was diagnosed at 23 i was told it was highly unlikely i would have kids and that i'd need help but still slim, 3 months later i got pregnant thankfully! (Really wanted kids and knew you need to "try" for 2yrs before nhs help, so we thought we'd get the ball rolling😅)I can only go off my experience but i was always afraid i'd never have the choice and was devasted being told that but everything turned out ok. What I'm trying to say is that even professionals can get it wrong, if or when your ready to have kids you may not have problems, if unfortunatley you do there are ways to help.

I wish you all the luck in the world and don't get pressured if your not ready either some of these drs think having a kid will solve everything!

Sorry i've rambled, i hope any of that helps

X
