Hi all,I am 6 weeks post-op from a hysterectomy. I have only a right ovary. The doctor prescribed dienogest 2mg for 6 months. Has anyone else been prescribed dienogest after a hysterectomy? Can dienogest cause ovary failure? It's known that medications like Lupron, and dienogest address symptoms rather than stopping endo growth. There is no such medicine currently available in the market that can stop the endo growth. Why do doctors still prescribe such medications?

Dienogest after hysterectomy
Hey endo321! Not quite the same as you, but I was given dienogest 2mg while waiting for my hysterectomy. At the time I only had my right ovary and the wait for surgery was still a long way off. I was told it would shut down the ovary, so it should help with pain. I took it for 3 months and didn't notice anything different, so they put me on Zoladex injections instead.
I spoke to a few people on here about dienogest and from what I understand, it is a temporary thing. As in, it kinda confuses the ovary and stops it working, but when you stop taking dienogest it will kick back in again. Agree it doesn't seem to stop the growth, but a lot said it helped with pain. Wasn't helpful to me but it has been for some.
Is this doctor an Endo specialist? If not then maybe they can refer you as it could be that something else would be more suited in your situation.
Best of luck and I hope you're starting to feel better!
