Dimetrum (Dienogest) experience

Hi all, just sharing my experience to see if anyone has had anything similar. I was diagnosed with Endo a few years ago and am finally booked in for surgery on the 5th of Feb. In the meantime I was prescribed Dienogest 2mg, as the surgeon said it can help with pain and also help reduce the endo tissue so that it is easier to operate on.

I have now taken 20 tablets (over 20 days) and have been bleeding moderately for the last 10 days, including pelvic pain and bloating.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I have been feeling quite emotional and exhausted, but I have a feeling its a by-product of the bleeding as the first 10 days taking the tablets I felt fine.

Hello, I started Dienogest at the end of October, and previous to this I was taking Tibolone. When I changed to Dienogest I did have bleeding for the first 2 - 3 weeks but then it stopped. The other side effect I've had is my sleep being really effected. I wake up several times a night, but each time I wake up I am wide awake and unable to get straight back to sleep... so then my energy levels are not great in the day.

I've been taking medication since March 2023, and I think the emotional part is to do with the hormones etc. The emotional side can wear you out too.

Generally it takes about 6 weeks for your body to get used to the medication, so stick with it and hopefully any side effects reduce.

Take Care,

Katie.

Hello, I've been on Dienogest since October. Everyone is different obviously but so far, it's worked wonders for me. I had trouble sleeping at the beginning but it got better. I was really worried about headaches as I suffer with migraines and had a bad experience with other hormones in the past, but I haven't had headaches on Diegnogest. No emotional impact.

My periods last longer now (~ 10 days) but are lighter - my cycles are getting longer every month (last one was 40 days) so I'm hoping my periods will eventually stop.

The pain has considerably reduced now that I've been on it for 3 months so overall, I'm very pleased with this benefit and the very mild side effects. Also my bloating is now completely gone.

Try and stick with it a little longer if you can and see how you feel then. Take care!
