Deep Infilrative Endometriosis - Recommended Hysterectomy. Age 35.

Hi All,

I have been to see a specialist at Endometriosis Centre in Birmingham. He has done an MRI where he can see Endometriosis around my csection scar, my pelvis, back, on bladder and bowel. He's consulting with MDT re bowel and bladder to check it has not infiltrating into there.

He has recommended excision and a hysterectomy keeping my ovaries. What is everyone's experience of this?

I am currently in bed in agony from right under my ribs into my pelvis. Its debilitating and frustrating. I don't know what to do with it.

Any advice on the hysterectomy would be helpful.

I think it could really help although many women on here state that a hysterectomy doesn't cure endometriosis and it can continue to grow - particularly if you still have your ovaries which will supply the estrogen. However, surgical menopause where you lose your ovaries can be really tough so if you can keep them I would, as you can always have them removed later. I'm 50 and my hysterectomy was abandoned in September because my endometriosis is now so bad everything is completely fused and it's affecting my bowel. Having it done earlier wiukd have prevented this. I now have fibroids and adenomyosis and endometriosis so getting it all out would prevent these problems later and peri menopause seems to stir it all up. You are young and will get over the surgery well. I would go for it x

If you have a hysterectomy and have the oavries removed the chances of the endo growing back are really high, if the ovaries are removed it is very very low. Excision can help for a bit but it grows back and you need more ops. I had the chance to have a hysterectomy and didn't and it has now spread everywhere like the lady below and they can't take the womb out as it is too fused. Ask your gynae and ask for a second opinion too. See whata others on here have to say. Good luck. xx
