Laparoscopy 4 months ago privately and problem has returned

Good evening ladies, don’t know if this is the right place to ask the question but I just wondered if anyone else could help if have been through something similar.

I had my second laparoscopy in May this year. I paid privately as I am undergoing fertility treatment and needed my tube sorting to be able to carry on. Going in to the operation I was told I would either have my tube clipped or removed depending on what could be done. I was happy to go along with this. Once I woke up the surgeon told me he didn’t have to clip or remove it as once he unstuck everything the fluid came out and did a dye test and it flowed through. He told me to try naturally for 6 months as I would probably have the best chance I have ever had to conceive and also said I had tubal damage and would need early scans if I did get pregnant to check for ectopic pregnancy.

4 months on I had no success so far so decided to start the ball rolling at my clinic so that I was ready to go whenever. They scanned me to check everything was ok but found that my right tube was full of fluid. I’ve had 2 further scans and they’ve told me I need to have the tube removed before continuing. So I have paid for an operation and I am no better off than I was 5 months ago. I have contacted the surgeon who seemed to suggest I would have to pay again if I want the tube removing. I am just checking if anyone else has experience of this after paying privately and the problem coming back immediately. I feel that it should be sorted free of charge as what we discussed was not carried out. But I don’t know if that’s just not how it is.

Grateful for any responses, I appreciate this is quite a specific question.

Thanks 🤗

Have you spoken to the hospital or just the consultant? It’s the hospital you’ll have paid so it’ll depend n their policy. That’s a really difficult one but get what you are saying and would agree with you. Potentially it would be a consumer issue so you could try the CAB consumer helpline, they might be able to give advice. Never know, I’ll keep 🤞 for you.

No I haven’t gone through the hospital yet. But I’ve got a phone consultation next week with the consultant so I will see what he says. If I’m not happy I will go to the hospital for the next step. And thanks so much for the advice. I will give those a ring too and see what they think. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Really appreciate it x

gosh I’m so sorry you’re in this position. So frustrating and upsetting I think if you were consented for it and they’ve not carried it out despite you clearly wanting to proceed with IVF and there being evidence of past problems with that tube, then there is a case to be answered by hospital and consultant.
