I’m a endometriosis patient now post menopausal at age 62

I was always alone with my endometriosis condition, the pain was awful and the fatigue and headaches. All to do with female hormones. A internet communication with other lady sufferers (perhaps even within driving distance to meet up in person ) would have been a great help.

The endometriosis is still there, I can’t feel any pain now I’ve been through the menopause.

Hi Softchoc,

I also an older endometriosis sufferer at 55. I have just had excision surgery 14 years after a hysterectomy at 40 and 2 other surgeries for endometriosis before that.

I also always felt alone with my endometriosis. I never talked about it with friends when I was younger and found it very difficult to discuss with doctors, which meant I didn't get help for almost 20 years after first symptoms. I never told my employer the real cause of many days off sick. More recently I have found it easier to share with friends and family even my employer.

I hope you find this community helpful, it is very supportive and a safe spacee to share experiences.

My endometriosis pain started at the age of 21, at the age of 38 I pleaded with the doctors to do a hysterectomy, but the surgeon had said that from the previous operations, the risks were great of me ending up with a bag from the bowel for the rest of my life, .

Can I ask you if you had a full hysterectomy and where your endo was? I'm 40 and have just been diagnosed. I showed no symptoms until recently but the damage is so severe that I've been offered a full hysterectomy. I don't know what to do for the best.

Hi,I had a subtotal hysterectomy and bilateral oophrectomy (removed ovaries) at 41. I think I had endo pretty much everywhere too. This did improve my symptoms for a while but they recurred periodically over the years and became much worse about 3 years ago. I was put on estrogen only HRT after the hysterectomy which helped menopause symptoms, but I was told recently that this has allowed the endo to regrow and I should have had combined HRT. Maybe I was unlucky?

Recent advice from an endo specialist also advised that i should have been recommended a full hysterectomy due to my history of endo and not subtotal.

On balance I think the hysterectomy was the right choice for me. But ask your consultant lots of questions before you decide. For example will they treat your endo in the surgery or just perform the hysterectomy? Can you be on HRT? What are the chances of recurrence in your case?

I hope you find a good solution for you.
