FIT test & Endo

hi all, has anyone had a positive fit test and still test and turned out nothing to do with the actual bowel but more endometriosis. I have already been through menopause but did have endo previously which I didn’t treat with ablation as said no at the time it was only new. I had a really bad loss of blood over 3 days, bowrl haemorrhage in March/April so had a fit test came which came back positive so referred to hospital. Had colonoscopy then a sigmoid to double check no piles and both normal, so had gastrophy which found multiple gastric polyps that they said would not cause bleeding as harmless ones. Had my yearly bloods done and came back low folate and anaemia so dr trying to find out why I am anaemic, had both fit test and still test and both have came back abnormal. Just wondering if maybe bowel endometriosis could be a cause to flag up in the fit test but not be seen on the colonoscopy. Had an ultrasound in January also internal one which showed a simple cyst on one ovary, couldn’t see the other ovary and never can fit some strange resin, but found also cystic appearance of the endometrium. Referring to hospital in January and still not had my appointment due to back logs they said. Anyone had a abnormal fit test that wasn’t bowel related tia x

Hi, I had this too. I first went to my GP last year and he ordered a FIT test just to 'rule out anything else' even though my problem is clearly gynaecological. But it came back positive and I had to have a colonoscopy too, which came back completely clear. The hospital said no more investigation into my bowels/digestive system was required. The GP eventually (several months later) referred me to a gynaecologist. No one is worried about the positive FIT test anymore. Pretty sure it was just a one off. You can get a positive FIT test from eating something that just scraped the lining of the bowel slightly or from straining too hard, things like that. I've got suspected endo, but it's not been confirmed, so I'm not sure whether my FIT test could be linked to that or not. I reckon if I took another one now it would probably be negative.

Sorry you had to go through the colonoscopy/sigmoid too. It's such an invasive procedure to have when it turns out there's nothing wrong with your bowels! But at least you have an answer for that part. I'm not sure whether bowel endo causes a positive FIT test. Might be best to ask your doc about that. Hope you feel better and get some answers soon!

Thank you very much for your reply that helps a lot to No you have had same thing.

Since having all my scopes I have had a blood test last week and it showed I’m anaemic, and also low in folate, so had to have repeat bloods done, anaemia again so dr is looking into it now, so had to do the stool test and also the fit test & both have came back again as abnormal. So I really don’t no now what avenue he will take but because the fit was positive they will need to investigate as there must be something going on with me, I’m just fed up with it all as the first fit was done as I had a bad bowel haemorrhage in March April lasted over 3 days just passing pure blood stools and blood clots with excruciating pain, but colonoscopy showed nothing so I’m just confused where it’s all came from now

How frustrating! I wish I could give you some advice, but I've never had bleeding from the bowel that badly. Might be worth writing all of this down and taking it to your doctor to ask whether endo could be causing any of those problems. I've never heard of endo causing that much bleeding from the bowel, only some, but lots of people get different symptoms. There is a lot about endo we still don't know.

Thank you, I mentioned to my doctor when he phoned me last week and he told me he was going to investigate as I’m anaemic, I said could it possibly be bowel endo, as my scopes are both clear, he said no because after menopause you don’t have flare ups of endo, but Iv read differently, just fed up now I’m a mystery apparently

I've been told menopause and endo shrinks but mine I feel is still active.
