Dienogest - how quickly it works?

Hi all,

Looking for people’s experience of taking dienogest.

Does anyone have any stories to share that involve a timeline for it noticeably reducing their endometriosis?

Thanks in advance 🤗

I took it before operation for a month, it was great two weeks and then awful. I was very moody and bleeding every day with pain. I stoped . I had adenomyosis tho

Oh that’s horrible. I really hope you found something that worked for you 😍 It’s so hard

Is so hard. My operation was tremendously helpful tho. Saved me physically and mentally. I was struggling for years 😩 nothing helped , no hormones, they made me worse, not everyone works well with synthetic hormones. But operation with an amazing surgeon and change of lifestyle changed my life. I'm sorry u struggling, endometriosis is hell and not much help is giving to women.

It took me around 3 months to get used to it. I had awful bleeding, cramps and other side effects during that time. But after that it kinda settled down and helped a lot with my pain. But it does come with side effects mind you…I have experienced weight gain and my anxiety is worse on it. Still it’s been worth it for me because the constant pain was making my life hell.

Took 4 months to notice a change however my endo progressed and was off it within 8 months now on zoladex x

I’ve been on it for a couple of weeks (I have endometriosis and Adenomyosis) I bled for two weeks quite heavily but was given tranxenamic acid which I took for five days and my period has stopped and I’m not in pain. Hopefully it will stay that way and it was just switching meds which did it. The best meds for me were Norethisterone as it completely stopped my period however it gave me leg cramps and so I had to come off it as there is a risk of DVT.

Hi Mum_tum,

I found that Dienogest got to work very quickly in my body, within 1-2 months. I had some spotting to begin with, following the removal of the Mirena coil but once this passed, I haven't experienced any further bleeding and I live most days pain-free!

I only wish I knew about it sooner and long may it continue to keep my symptoms at bay.

Good luck 😊

Hi,

I have been on it for almost 3 months now, alongside Mirena since the UID only, wasn’t helping with my endo.

I noticed pain reduction within the 1st month and even the flow was significantly decreased.

Now at month 3, I’m feeling my good self coming back, I’m pain free (that’s the massive improvement for me), although the occasional VERY mild cramps (that last literally minutes) and spotting are present.

I’m 42 so I hope my gynaecologist will keep me on both, till I reach menopause. It gave me my life back! I wish I knew about these options years earlier.
