Bowel issues and pain.

Hi everyone. I am hoping one of you lovely brave people may be able to help me. Apologies in advance for the long post.

I am 21 weeks post total hysterectomy for Adenomyosis, along with extensive excision of DIE endometriosis, and bowel shave. I have previously had a Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy , this was last year but performed by general gynaecologist which I now know shouldn’t have happened and during my last surgery a ovarian remnant was also removed. The pain has definitely improved but I have still suffered with the same lower back pain (just not as severe), worse in the right side radiating towards my hip and leg . The last few weeks this pain has increased and I’ve also been experiencing bloating and a heaviness in abdomen and pelvic region. I feel so uncomfortable. I also have pains in my rectal area. I am constantly constipated despite taking all sorts of potions and pills for it. Sorry for TMI, but when I do go I only pass a small amount and never feel empty. The pain when I do go is very bad and I do not feel any relief from "going". I am also suffering from bouts of nausea.

My surgeon was very experienced and highly recommended in treatment of Endometriosis. After my operation he said that he had removed all endo that he could find. I did end up paying for this privately at an accredited centre and received excellent care. Because of this this I am certain the pain is now not Endo but is this pain still normal recovery symptoms? I feel a bit of a fraud putting up this post as I am very lucky to have had my surgery and should not be complaining, and to have had it with such an excellent Consultant.

Any advice/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks xx

Hi, l can relate to the post surgery bowel problem. I reverted to an old fashioned remedy and had a lightweight heat pad on my tummy when lying down, the type you can microwave. There is not as far as l am aware a one thing suits all solution. But believe it or not l found old fashioned SYRUP OF FIGS, liquid laxative was the best for me, usually doesn’t give that *urgent* feeling to visit the loo but did help.

Also l really upped the amount of water l drank, some of which l had slightly warm, let the kettle boil then wait until it is literally just touch warm.

I hope you are feeling a little better soon, please be patient with yourself and try to let your loved ones spoil you a little.

Hi Alexa

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I try to drink a lot of water, it’s mostly all I drink now but I will try having it slightly warm. I will also try the syrup of figs, I have tried most things that Gp has suggested and haven’t had that since I was a child (and it always worked then ☺️).

I hope all is ok with you , thank you again for your advice 💝.
