How quickly can endometrioma grow?

Hi everyone! I have been diagnosed with a large endometrioma on my right ovary, and am currently on the waiting list for a laparoscopy.

Until recently, most of my pain has been on my right side, in the middle of my abdomen, or in my pelvis. But over the past few weeks, the pain has been almost completely in my left, which is odd considering the affected ovary is the right one.

I was wondering if there’s a chance there’s another endometrioma growing on my left ovary? I had an MRI on Feb 7th and nothing could be seen then. I thought chocolate cysts grew quite slowly, so is it quite unlikely that this is another cyst? And information would really be appreciated, thanks ☺️

Hi siob96. I was told I had a 2cm cyst on my left ovary in feb 21, by august I also had one on my right which was 4cm, the left was still 2cm and at which point was told it was an endometrioma. I requested another scan in the February of 22 as I didn’t want to start fertility treatment if it had grown, which they said it won’t have grown but they’d check anyway. It had grown to 6cm and was told they’d be best operating on me. By the time of my surgery in May the surgeon said it was between 8-9cm so they can grow at a reasonable rate, although my left one never did. So just sharing my experience with you. Hope you get sorted x

Hi

An endometroma is created when your endometriosis is growing inside the ovary, it sheds is blood each period but this has no where to go so an endometrioma is formed. The speed of growth is dependent on the amount of endometriosis. ‘Endometriosis – A key to healing through nutrition’ by Dian Shepperson Mills and Michael Vernon gives information about managing your symptoms by changing your diet.

like you I have a recent diagnosis of endometrioma on my right ovary (6.5cm). I have mainly had pain throughout the years on my left side hip& pelvis but also suffered both sides during ovulation (alternating). I have read studies that pain can be referred to the opposite side of body. And also if the cyst is pushing against a nerve or joined to other tissues this can change where you feel the pain. Probably best to speak to your gyno or GP for medical advice. Best of luck!
