so I was diagnosed with rectovaginal deep infiltrating endometriosis in 2019. Had a laparoscopy and colonoscopy and MRI. I fell pregnant shortly after so I couldn’t go ahead with the bowel resection that I needed. I have since moved from south east to midlands and I have been referred for the op.
Before I was referred to Dr Shaheen Khazali who is a gynaecologist and endo specialist. Where as now I have been sent my first app with a general surgeon. I’m worried and a bit confused as to why I haven’t been referred to a specialist. And what can I say to this dr at my appointment without sounding like a pleb?
Any advice would be appreciated

This is severe endo and must only be treated in a specialist endo centre. It involves a team of two advanced lap surgeons plus a colorectal surgeon with a special interest in endo as part of the centre's team. There is a specific treatment pathway that your GP needs to be aware of but sadly few seem to be. Will DM you the details as it's involved.
You will need a gynae surgeon and colorectal surgeon, it;s a really complex operation. Khazali is one of the best endo surgeons in the UK so it's a real shame you aren't with him. Maybe you could ask if you can still go to him.Lindle knows her stuff so read what she sends you. Good luck
If you can travel you are still able to go to any hospital within England on the NHS. Your GP may be reluctant but this is absolutely your right! You don't have to go to a local hospital, they just do that so you don't have as far to travel. If you are able to I would ask to be referred back to your old gynae. I'm going to travel down near London to see a decent specialist, because West Yorkshire sadly doesn't have a proper endo specialist. Obviously it is totally up to you and you may feel you can't travel that far! I just know that surgery with someone who isn't an expert in excision can mean repeated surgeries. Never mind seeing someone who is a general gynae when you have severe endo! Xx
